places of
pilgrimage
Rooted in place. Shaped around your guests
designing for return
An editorial eye and a commercial instinct behind every design decision.
Interiors, brand and marketing aren’t separate disciplines here. They’re one system, built on the same understanding of how places get discovered and how stories spread. The stories are designed in from the start, so photography, press and social content have real material to work with rather than having to invent it afterwards. And because every element points the same way, the place becomes easier to recognise, easier to recommend and easier to come back to.
THE NEW LUXURY OF MEANING
Experiential hospitality is growing fast worldwide. Places that immerse guests in nature and local culture, and leave them feeling restored, are the ones pulling ahead.
The global wellness economy reached $6.8 trillion in 2024 and is forecast to reach nearly $9.8 trillion by 2029. The UN’s tourism body estimates that cultural tourism accounts for around 40% of international tourist arrivals. Wellness and culture are no longer niche interests. They’re two of the biggest forces in travel.
THE OLD RULES ARE BEING RE-WRITTEN
GOODBYE BEIGE
What's coming will reward the distinctive and leave the generic behind.
For years the aim was broad appeal. Now, knowing exactly who you’re building for is how you create something that lasts: a place with an audience that returns, and whose recommendations carry weight.
People increasingly choose places that reflect who they are. Being found works the same way. AI travel planning, aligned partnerships and a brand people remember all reward a clear point of view and a committed audience.
And a committed audience books direct. While much of the industry still relies on booking platforms, the places with the strongest identities are building relationships they own: guests who come straight to them, return, and bring others with them.
That means letting go of being for everyone. To succeed in the coming era, you have to be for someone.
LOOKING BEYOND THE HOT TUB
Culture, wellness and technology
Art is drawing visitors to a new generation of large estates. Wellness and wilderness are becoming one and the same. And sleep technology and immersive experiences are changing what guests expect from a stay.
Borradill, SCOTLAND
Borradill began as two underperforming cabins on a 25-acre estate above Loch Sunart, on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula.
The landscape was extraordinary. The commercial performance wasn’t.
OUR PROOF
It needed a complete repositioning: to understand what it was, who it was for and what story it was telling, and then to build every physical and commercial decision around those answers. Its audience was nature-starved city dwellers, and its story turned out to be the land itself.
We created a Scandi-Hebridean concept and carried it through the interiors, online presence, marketing and discoverability. Guests forage and sea-trek on the same ground the cabins stand on, with experiences tailored by local partners and woven into the property’s identity rather than listed as nearby activities.
Within the first year:
Occupancy rose from 30% to 72%
Weekly rates increased by 120%
65% of bookings came direct
The work sold the place without an external PR agency or paid media. Borradill was named in the Financial Times’ top 50 places to holiday in 2025, and has featured in The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian and Homes & Interiors.
This is Design for Return: new interiors, a clear identity and a visual world built from what was already there. It’s the method we bring to every project.

the method
1.DISCOVER
We start with the place: its landscape, history and character, and who it could be for.
You get: a clear view of what makes your place impossible to copy, and who it’s for.
2.Define
We shape the concept, the identity, the experiences on offer, and the story everything will be built around.
You get: a concept and brief your whole team can work from.
3.Design
We bring it to life through interiors made for the experiences guests come for, and a visual world that runs through everything. We brief makers and your local delivery partners.
You get: a design scheme and schedules, ready for your team to deliver.
4.launch
We carry the story through to how the place is found and booked: online presence, photography, press and direct bookings.
You get: a place that’s ready to be found, photographed and talked about.
Every project is scoped to the place. Some clients need the full journey, others a single stage.
